Friendly microbes can help get rid of pollution.
I'm Might E. Microbe (the "E" stands for "Environmental") and these are some of my many, many, mini-friends. We are microscopic single-celled living things that occur naturally. We can clean-up the environment all by ourselves, but it might take thousands of years, maybe a million years. If you help us, together we can clean-up pollution much faster, better, and cheaper than any other way.
We made this website to get you to help us. Together, we really can "Make the World a Better Place." But we need your help. So we're inviting you to join Might E. Microbe's Action Team.
This website gives you fun facts about beneficial microbes, information about what you can do, and a webpage for teachers. This website has information on starting your own Action Team with your friends. There are also copies of Might E. Microbe's original coloring book that you can read online or print-out to share with others.
We work best with humans who really understand us, and know how much we like to eat pollution. The humans who know us best are environmental engineers and environmental site managers. They analyze the pollution at contaminated sites, until they know exactly how much pollution and what types of pollution need to be eliminated. Then they write reports explaining how they plan to clean-up the pollution. Sometimes (but not often enough), the plans include using friendly microbes to reduce pollution. The engineers give their plans to government agencies for review. Then the engineers simply follow the approved plan, with the government or the landowner paying for their work. We're glad to work together with the environmental engineers and environmental site managers to reduce the amount of pollution to levels that the government considers safe. When the pollution is gone, so are the microbes because there's nothing left for us to eat. Then we're ready to start over at the next place the engineers send us, and have another meal of stuff we like to eat, the same stuff that you humans call "pollution."
